"What do you call a City Council that approves a motion in unconditional support of Israel and rejects a proposal aimed at actively promoting a diplomatic solution in the Middle East?" With these words, Councilor Michele Menchetti expressed his disappointment following the rejection, which took place today in the City Council, of the motion he presented. The proposal aimed to commit Italy to supporting concrete initiatives for a peaceful resolution of the conflict underway in the Middle East. "The act I presented was born from the firm belief that Italy must assume the role of mediator that has historically been its own, especially in a delicate area like the Mediterranean," says Councilor Menchetti. "My thoughts go first and foremost to the Palestinian population, who day after day are the victims of a massacre that many are now calling a true genocide." Menchetti harshly criticizes the decision of the City Council of Arezzo, calling it "not at all empathetic towards the Palestinians." "It is disconcerting that this assembly has preferred to express unconditional support to one of the parties in conflict, effectively closing the door to any attempt at dialogue and diplomatic solution," concludes councilor Michele Menchetti.
